Rebuilding After Harvey: Resources for Employees
We are here for you. Throughout this storm, our employees have displayed a remarkable spirit of courage and resolve, despite their own personal challenges. It is part of our culture to show compassion, and in recent days, we have seen countless examples of our employees exemplifying this virtue time and time again. Memorial Hermann is beyond proud of the work that’s been accomplished in the face of the worst natural disaster to strike our region in its history. We are a family, and families take care of one another. We are so grateful to have such a dedicated and compassionate team, and while we still have much work ahead of us, we will get through these difficult times and start the process of healing and rebuilding together.
Employee Relief Fund
Memorial Hermann Harvey Relief Fund for employees is a philanthropic resource that will be dedicated to supporting employees who were most severely affected by the storm. To apply for financial assistance, contact the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at 866-994-6507. The application process will include a scheduled interview regarding your losses, completion of the Partners in Caring Employee Flood Relief Application (must be on Memorial Hermann network to access application) and documentation of your damages. EAP consultants are available to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
As recovery efforts begin, those who were impacted by the storm in varying ways may require temporary financial assistance to help rebuild. As such, we will be offering payroll advances of up to $2,000 per employee, which can be paid back by the end of the calendar year. To apply, complete the Payroll Advance Form.
Access to 403(b) and 401(k)

Employees Helping Employees
Many of you have reached out asking what you can do to help support your colleagues in need. As such, a Harvey Relief Community has been established on MH Connections that allows employees to connect directly with each other and offer individualized assistance, such as ridesharing, lodging, or help with childcare arrangements. You can access this community by clicking here (must be on Memorial Hermann network to access the community). This resource is a wonderful way to offer direct assistance to a coworker in need.
Each of us has been affected in some way by this devastating storm, and the emotional toll of the destruction can be severe. Through our Employee Assistance Program, we have licensed counselors who are available via phone to help you cope with any grief or anxiety you may be feeling. HAR (Houston Association of Realtors) is providing resources for temporary housing throughout the Texas Gulf Coast.
Residents throughout the Greater Houston area are offering their homes or rooms in their homes through AirBnB to people impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Visit this link to access available lodging.
Additional reduced rate housing options are also available to Memorial Hermann employees.

With road closures and high water still making some roadways impassible, your work commute may be delayed or your route may temporarily need to be changed. Be sure to visit www.drivetexas.org or Houston Transtar before driving to plan your route and allow for additional travel time to and from work.
The Houston Furniture Bank will give three pieces of donated furniture (mostly bedding) to the first 70 families in line each day at their Mosley location. A truck, valid ID, and FEMA certificate are needed to receive donated furniture. A Houston Furniture Bank application must be completed at the Mosley location. Child and Elder Care Assistance
Bright Horizons Back-Up Care Advantage Program with My CareAssist is available for employees who need assistance with child and elder care. Once registered, Bright Horizons will help you find the care you need through a local child care center or in-home care. Long-term Child Care
If you are in need of finding long-term child care, two resources are available:
- The Employee Assistance Program is available to assist you in finding child care. To access the EAP, call (866) 994-6507 or click here.
- Sittercity, is the largest database of its kind to find caregivers. Your Memorial Hermann benefit gives you free access, free background checks and targeted search functions. (You are responsible for the cost of care.) For additional information, visit the Sittercity website and select the "Additional Family Support" tab.
The Employee Discount Spot is available to provide you discounts on hotel rentals, car purchases, rentals, and/or repairs, and household goods. Visit the Employee Discount Spot website.
Purchasing Power is available to full-time and part-time employees who have worked for Memorial Hermann for the past 9 months and earn at least $16,000 per year. This program allows you to purchase computers, appliances and much more that are shipped directly to your home. Payments are made through payroll deductions and are set up over a period of up to 12 months. Spending limits are based on your eligibility and you can pay off your balance at any time without penalty. Purchasing Power even provides technical support if you have problems with your products.

Prescription Drugs (for Memorial Hermann Health Plan members)
If you are enrolled in either the Memorial Hermann Care or the Catastrophic Medical Plans and are having difficulties getting a prescription filled due to the flooding and damage caused by Hurricane Harvey, please call OptumRx at (877) 633-4461 for assistance and instructions on how to proceed.
Access to Urgent Care and Primary Care Physicians
Many of the Memorial Hermann Medical Group practice locations have reopened to patients. In order to accommodate patients with immediate medical needs, MHMG will be scheduling Same Day Appointments. If you need to see a physician, please call our Clinical Access Center at (844) 644-2778 to find a location near you with availability.

Experienced nurses will help you decide when and where to go for medical care. These bilingual nurses are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer your health questions by phone.
The American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is providing $400 of financial assistance to Texas families who were severely impacted by Hurricane Harvey and need help taking care of emergency needs. To be eligible, a family’s primary address must be in one of the 39 approved Texas counties. For more information or to register for the $400 financial assistance, visit www.disasterverification.com/redcross. Registration will be open for 30 days, beginning September 11.
The United Way of Greater Houston
The United Way of Greater Houston, which has long been a valued partner of Memorial Hermann’s, has established a fund to help with storm-related needs and recovery in our community. You can also receive help by dialing 2-1-1. They have also put together an After the Storm Guide that has helpful resources during recovery.
THA Hospital Employee Assistance Fund
In addition, our friends at the Texas Hospital Association have created the THA Hospital Employee Assistance Fund to help hospital employees who experienced significant property loss or damage during Harvey. Visit the Texas Hospital Association site to review eligibility criteria and download the “THA Hospital Employee Assistance Fund Employee Request for Assistance” (Form A). If you feel you meet the established criteria, submit your completed Form A (please write clearly) to THAHarveyReliefFund@memorialhermann.org. Submissions will be compiled according to the Texas Hospital Association (THA) guidelines and sent to THA for evaluation on a biweekly basis.
