American College of Surgeons approves hospital. |

Name
of sanitarium is changed to Baptist Hospital.
Nursing school changes its name to Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. |

Enrollment
in nursing school is increased to 100 students. Old hospital
building is moved across the street and turned into nurses'
home. High school
diploma becomes requirement for admission.
Hospital
receives $83,000 from Baptist General Convention fund-raising
campaign and buys most of the remaining block on which it is
located.
Hospital
adds 100 beds, increasing capacity to 215, and facilities for
laboratory work. Admits 54 crippled children who were sent
by the Arabia Temple Shrine of Houston under a cost-sharing
plan. |

Mr.
and Mrs. J.W. Neal set up the Margaret Ophelia Neal Trust Fund
of $100,000 in memory of their daughter who died at age 2.
The fund is used to care
for sick, disabled, injured and suffering children. By 1937, 614 children
have been treated. |
