offer hepatitis B vaccine to employees at no charge. |

Vernon
G. Garrett Jr. serves as interim president of the system for

Dan S. Wilford
becomes president of Memorial system. |

Memorial's
physician referral service receives first calls from Houstonians
looking for board-certified physicians. |

Memorial
Hospital Southeast's new facility opens.
System opens
$2.5 million Magnetic Resonance Imaging Center.
System institutes
Memorial 55+ program and becomes first hospital in the state
to implement programs designed specifically for Texans age
55 and older.

Employees
begin "Partners in Caring" program, rooted in a philosophy
of treating patients and each other with dignity.

University
Place opens and is the only hospital-affiliated retirement

Montague, trustee, receives Texas Hospital Trustees Founders
Award for outstanding contributions to the health care field
and exemplary leadership and service to Memorial. |

Barry
D. Kahan, M.D., performs the first kidney transplant at hospital,
and patient is one of first 300 patients in United States to
be treated with cyclosporine. |

H. and Mary Gibbs Jones Medical-Surgical Center opens on 8th
floor of Jones Pavilion.
Hospital
opens Texas Kidney Center.

Children's
area within Hermann is officially designated as University
Children's Hospital at Hermann.
Texas attorney
general files suit to reform Hermann Estate board and later
dismisses suit in return for hospital providing more charity
care. "Reform" board members, including John S. Chase
and Melinda H. Perrin, are appointed. |
