Mark Adickes, M.D., Co-medical Director, Orthopedic Surgeon
Prior to joining Memorial Hermann, Dr. Adickes completed his sports medicine fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Richard Steadman of the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo. Dr. Adickes completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. In 2000, he earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Mass.
Dr. Adickes' career in medicine follows a remarkable decade-long career in the National Football League, during which he was a member of the 1991 Super Bowl Championship Washington Redskins Team. An alumnus of Baylor University, Dr. Adickes was inducted into the Baylor Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Dr. Adickes serves as team physician for the Houston Rockets, U.S. Ski Team, Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and St. Thomas University.
Thomas Clanton, M.D., Co-medical Director, Orthopedic Surgeon
Medical Director Thomas Clanton, M.D., is also professor in the department of orthopedic surgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Board certified since 1984, Dr. Clanton is a former president of the Texas Society for Sports Medicine. Associate editor of Foot and Ankle International, he is widely published and lectures throughout the United States, Mexico, Japan and Europe.
Dr. Clanton currently serves on the Board of Councilors of the International Federation of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr, Clanton has been a team physician for the Rice University Athletic Department since 1982, as well as being a team orthopedist for the Houston Texans since 2001 and head team physician for the Houston Rockets since 2005.
Walter R. Lowe, M.D., Co-Medical Director, Orthopedic Surgeon
Walt Lowe, M.D., specializes in sports medicine with an emphasis on diagnosing and treating a wide range of knee, shoulder and elbow injuries and disorders. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and serves as the head team physician for the NFL Houston Texans, University of Houston, Houston Baptist University and many area high schools. He is also an orthopedic knee and shoulder consultant for the Houston Rockets and a consultant for NASA.
Dr. Lowe is an associate professor in the department of orthopedic surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Lowe is the director of Baylor Sports Medicine Fellowship and the chief of the Sports Medicine Section.
Lowe received a B.A. from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo. He received his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. After completing an internship at John Peter Smith Hospital and a residency at Tarrant County Affiliated Hospitals in Fort Worth, Texas, Lowe completed a fellowship at the renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. While there, Lowe spent a year studying under sports medicine baseball surgeon Frank Jobe, M.D.
Troy Wenzel, Executive Director
An athletic trainer, Troy Wenzel has worked with the NFL Denver Broncos and NBA Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks, along with the NBA Expansion Team Vancouver Grizzlies. In addition, he worked as Athletic Trainer for the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour, Cirque du Soleil, USA Basketball, USA Volleyball and USA Gymnastics.
In 2002, Troy was selected as an Athletic Trainer for Team USA at the World Basketball Championships and also at the 2003 NBA All-Star Game. He served on the Gatorade Sports Science Institute Advisory Board and as a Clinical Instructor in Human Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is currently serving on the National Basketball Athletic Trainer’s Association Foundation and the Houston Minority Business Council.
