The orthopedic physical therapy residency program is designed to graduate innovators and leaders in best practice that are prepared to obtain board certification in orthopedic physical therapy. The 13- month program is focused on developing advanced practice, teaching and mentoring, research, and leadership and is structured in accordance to the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education requirements.
Residents train with board certified and fellowship trained physical therapists at several of our over 30 Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation clinics. Additionally, residents will have an opportunity to collaborate with physicians and surgeons from the UT Health Houston Medical School, the IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute. Residents will also observe and learn from members of the Human Performance team and the Athletic Training Outreach team.
Additional highlights of the resident experience include clinical instruction of a physical therapy student under the direction of the residency faculty and mentoring of incoming residents for one month to ensure seamless transition of clinical practice and residency operations.
