Dr. Prakash Balan earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He completed a second fellowship in interventional cardiology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School. Dr. Balan also holds a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Board certified in internal medicine, adult comprehensive echocardiography, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology, Dr. Balan’s clinical interests are acute myocardial infarction care, complex coronary interventions, radial catheterization, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, structural heart interventions, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and hemodynamic support. A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, he serves on the faculty of the UTHealth Medical School.
Dr. Balan has been in practice in Houston since 2012, treating patients 18 years and older. His practice philosophy emphasizes taking time to listen carefully to patients and treating each one like a member of his family. As part of a group of specialists in cardiac medicine and related areas, he believes that a team approach provides the best possible care to patients.
A resident of the Medical Center area, Dr. Balan is married and has two children. His favorite leisure activities are spending time with his family and exercising.
