Dr. James Maher Jr, MD

Dr. James Maher received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of California School of Medicine, Irvine (UCI), followed by a fellowship in hepatology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and a fellowship in gastroenterology at UCI.

Board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Maher has practiced medicine since 1985. His clinical interests include hepatitis C, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and biliary tract diseases.

Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Maher treats patients 18 years and older. He is a strong proponent of patient education as well as open and thorough discussion of treatment options. He takes time to know each patient, making sure their gastrointestinal needs and concerns are addressed. Patients value his direct involvement and support throughout their diagnosis, treatment and continuing care.

Katy residents, Dr. Maher and his wife have six children and four grandchildren. Other than being a doctor, he enjoys fishing, going to the movies and reading.
