Dr. Dean Smith earned his medical degree at the University of Missouri in
Columbia. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of
New Mexico in Albuquerque and a residency in hand surgery at the University of
Florida in Gainesville.
Board certified in orthopedic
hand surgery, Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic
Surgeons and has earned a Certificate of Added Qualifications, the highest
certification for surgery of the hand. His clinical interests include minimally
invasive hand surgery, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, upper extremity and
shoulder arthroscopy, hand arthritis, work injuries, nerve compression,
tendonitis, hand trauma and Dupuytren's contracture. In practice in Houston since 2001, he treats
patients of all ages. Members of his
staff are fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Smith’s practice philosophy is to provide compassionate,
thorough, up-to-date and cutting-edge non-surgical and surgical treatment for
conditions affecting the hand and upper extremity. He is known for empathetic and accessible care, as well as excellent communication and
taking time to listen to patients.
