A native of Florida, Dr. Nisha Shah earned her medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed her internship and residency at Tulane University in New Orleans. She completed a fellowship in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at the Roski Eye Institute at the University of Southern California/Los Angeles County Hospital.
During her fellowship, Dr, Shah underwent additional refractive surgery training with the U.S. Navy at Camp Pendleton, Calif. She is one of only a handful of ophthalmologists in the country who are fellowship trained in both cornea and refractive surgery. She also completed a research fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, which resulted in publication of several book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as numerous conference presentations.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Shah has been in practice since 2013. Her clinical interests include ophthalmology, diabetic eye exams, laser cataract surgery, LASIK/PRK, cornea transplant surgery, pterygium surgery and glaucoma surgery. She treats adult patients (age 8 and older) and also speaks Spanish and Gujarati. She offers free Lasik screening exams.
Her patients value the quality of care and the time she spends with them. Dr. Shah believes in treating patients as she would want to be treated. She offers same-day appointments and is involved in each patient’s pre- and post-operative recovery.
A resident of Houston, Dr. Shah enjoys traveling with her husband and has been part of medical mission trips in Nicaragua and India. Her hobbies include tennis, painting and choreography.
