Physician Biography

Dr. Houston Braly is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).

He is board eligible by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and specializes in hip and knee reconstructive surgery concentrating on primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty as well as partial knee replacement.

In addition, he performs total hip replacements through both anterior based muscle sparing and posterior approaches. His practice also encompasses the treatment of developmental disorders of all ages that require joint replacement, lower extremity and periprosthetic fractures, as well as treatment of complex infections involving the joint replacement. Dr. Houston Braly’s practice is centered around the patient with the goal of obtaining the best outcome.

Dr. Houston Braly joins UT Ortho from Duke University School of Medicine, where he completed a fellowship in Hip and Knee Reconstructive Surgery. He graduated magna cum lade from Texas A&M University with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences. He attended the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he finished medical school and his orthopedic surgery residency.

He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. In residency, he was selected as an American Orthopedic Association Emerging Leaders Program Resident Representative. He also published research involving the treatment of distal tibial nonunions with bone marrow aspirations. During both residency and fellowship, he has participated in several clinical research projects, with a focus on preventing infections involving joint replacement.

A native of Houston, he was actually named after his great-grandfather. Growing up he spent lot of his free time accompanying his father, also an Orthopaedic Surgeon, on hospital rounds and surgery. He learned to love anatomy and appreciate the hard-work and satisfaction of helping others at an early age, earning his Eagle Scout at age 14. He is married to his wife, Kristina, whom he met in medical school and currently practices as an Anesthesiologist. They are expecting their first child in November.
