Dr. Matthew Weldon, MD

Dr. Matthew Weldon received his undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, where he was an All-Conference football player and graduated with three degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Bachelor of Business Administration. He completed medical school at Ross University, graduating with Highest Honors. After completing an internship in general surgery at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Dr. Weldon completed his orthopedic surgery residency at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Upon completion of his training, he underwent an additional fellowship year of specialty training in orthopedic sports medicine at McGovern Medical School, where he was selected as the Administrative Fellow.

Dr. Weldon specializes in sports medicine with an emphasis on arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle. Through his training, Dr. Weldon has gained expertise in the latest and most advanced techniques for minimally invasive surgery and reconstructive treatments, as well as nonsurgical management and rehabilitation. Dr. Weldon has a special interest in joint preservation, focusing on limb alignment and correction. Additionally, he also performs joint replacement, encompassing the entire spectrum of joint disease.

An assistant professor in the department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School, Dr. Weldon is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM). 

Dr. Weldon has extensive hands-on experience in treating sports medicine conditions in high school, collegiate, professional and recreational athletes. Currently the team physician for the Houston Dash, he  has worked with the Houston Texans, Houston Rockets, Houston Astros and Houston Dynamo as well as the athletic teams at the University of Houston. Dr. Weldon also serves as the team physician for both North Shore High School in Houston and Bridgeland High School in Cypress, in addition to caring for many other area high school athletes.
