Duraisamy Balaguru, M.D.
Dr. Duraisamy Balaguru earned his medical degree at Thanjavur Medical College in Thanjavur, India. He completed residencies in pediatrics at Stanley Medical College Hospital, Chennai, India, in pediatrics at King's Mill Hospital, Mansfield, United Kingdom, and in neonatology at St. Mary’s Hospital, Manchester, and All Saint's Hospital, Chatham (Kent). He started pediatric cardiology training at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. He was a research fellow in pediatric cardiology at NYU Medical Center, New York, New York, where he also completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology. He was a senior fellow in interventional cardiology at MUSC Children's Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, and a senior fellow in cardiology at Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
Board certified in pediatric cardiology, Dr. Balaguru is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics ,the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Catheterization, Angiography and Interventions. His primary clinical interest is pediatric interventional cardiac catheterization. He also participates in cardiac intensive care. An attending physician since 2002, he treats patients from birth to 19 years old and is also fluent in Tamil.
In addition to his clinical duties at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, he serves as an associate professor of pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School, where he has been honored with the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Balaguru has authored numerous journal articles and frequently lectures on topics and research findings related to pediatric cardiology.
