Dr. Michael H. Hines, M.D.
Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery
Dr. Michael Hines is a graduate of Bowman Gray Medical School at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He completed his residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital and a fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Board certified in congenital cardiac surgery and thoracic and cardiac surgery, Dr. Hines’ clinical interests include congenital heart disease, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for congenital heart disease (CHD), adult and pediatric extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), pectus repairs and tracheal defects. His professional recognitions include the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the Arnold Gold Foundation and several teaching awards. He has also been named on “Best Doctors” lists in North Carolina, Houston and the United States.
Since 2011, Dr. Hines has served as a professor of pediatric cardiovascular surgery and medical director of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). In practice since 1994 and proficient in Spanish, Dr. Hines treats all ages with CHD and cardiorespiratory failure. He has extensive experience with ECMO and is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in ECMO for adult respiratory failure.
Dr. Hines is a resident of Houston.
