Brooke Swearingen, MD, FAAP, earned her Bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and her medical degree from the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio. She completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Dr. Swearingen is board certified and sees patients from newborn to age 18.
Dr. Swearingen says she fell in love with the field of pediatrics as a medical student and knew the specialty would be her career calling. “Working with children is such a pleasure, Swearingen says. “They are fun, energetic, and resilient – that is what drew me to this specialty.”
Developing relationships with each family, building trust through experience and time, making her patients feel comfortable, and communicating in ways they understand, are priorities for Dr. Swearingen. While treating the patient, Dr. Swearingen also works to incorporate the entire family into the treatment plan.
“I enjoy sitting down and listening to my patients and their parents and hearing their concerns,” she says. “My job is to listen and put the pieces of the puzzle together and then determine a treatment plan.”
An outdoor enthusiast who enjoys running, biking, and golfing, Dr. Swearingen considers herself an advocate of healthy living. “I like to be a health educator and partner with the families so they can come to me with their health concerns,” she says.
An avid volunteer who is active in her community, Dr. Swearingen donates her time to the Houston Marathon to aid participants in need of medical attention.
Away from work, Dr. Swearingen enjoys spending time with her husband, exploring new destinations around Texas and abroad. She also loves music, particularly singing and playing guitar.
