Salih Selek, MD, earned his medical degree from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. He then completed a psychiatry residency at Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine in Gaziantep, Turkey.

Certified by the American Board of Medical Quality, Dr. Selek is ranked as one of the top international specialists in mood disorders and in the study and treatment of refractory mood disorders. He offers both inpatient and outpatient electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) services and outpatient ketamine infusion through an experimental trial for patients with treatment-resistant depression. In addition, Dr. Selek’s clinical interests include adult general psychiatry, bipolar disorder and depression. His research interests include neuroimaging and psychopharmacology.

He currently serves as an associate professor in the department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. Dr. Selek is also the Director of the Refractory Mood Disorders Program and leads the ECT Clinic and Ketamine Clinical Trials at UTHealth’s Harris County Psychiatric Center (HCPC).

Before joining the faculty at McGovern Medical School in 2014, he served as the chairperson of the Psychiatry Department at Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Selek has published over 80 scholarly papers with over 1600 citations. He wrote several chapters and served as editor, associate editor and advisory board member for several scholarly journals and scientific books. In 2008, he received the APA Young Investigator Colloquium and was invited to attend an International Fellowship by the Society of Biological Psychiatry.
