Dr. Jose Melendez, MD

Dr. Jose A. Melendez earned his medical degree and graduated magna cum laude from New York Medical College in New York City. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center School of Medicine in Farmington, where he was chief resident and named resident of the year. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary, sleep, critical care and lung transplant medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he was chief sleep fellow and named Sleep and Pulmonary Critical Care Fellow of the Year. Dr. Jose Melendez is a Specialist in Pulmonary, Critical Care, & Sleep Medicine.

Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary, sleep and critical care medicine, Dr. Melendez has practiced medicine since 2005. His clinical interests include chronic oppressive pulmonary disorder (COPD), asthma, pneumonia, chronic cough, bronchitis, pulmonary hypertension/right heart catheterization and the diagnosis and management of all pulmonary diseases and sleep disorders, including sleep apnea. In 2014, he was named the Physician of the Year at Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital.

Using state-of-the-art medical therapy, Dr. Melendez treats patients 18 years and older and 18 years and older for sleep medicine.. Fluent in Spanish, he believes in educating patients so they have a full understanding of their disease and treatments that are available to them.

Dr. Melendez is one of the only physicians in central and northeast Houston performing the Bronchial Thermoplasty on his patients, a procedure that reduces asthma attacks by reducing airway smooth muscle.

A resident of Houston, Dr. Melendez enjoys sports and traveling.
