What Does A Vascular Interventional Radiologist Do?

A vascular interventional radiologist is a specialist trained to diagnose conditions of the blood vessels using minimally invasive imaging procedures in order to minimize health risks and improve results. They employ interventional radiological procedures which are least invasive than traditional surgery to ensure a minimum risk to the patient’s health, reduce hospital stay and improve outcomes. With the help of X-rays, CT scans, and PET scans the vascular interventional radiologist obtains images which are used to direct interventional instruments into blood vessels. Disorders of veins like deep vein thrombosis, varicose veins, arterial diseases like aneurysms, peripheral artery disease, pulmonary embolism, conditions like arterio-venous malformations, limb ischemia, placement of IVC filter are all carried out under the supervision of a vascular interventional radiologist. All vascular interventional radiologists on our panel are board-eligible or board-certified in radiology and have completed a vascular interventional radiology fellowship as well as internal medicine residency following medical school.
