Driving Change for Houston

Turn the Trend. Don’t Tech and Drive.

Take the PledgeWatch the Video

A quick search online can find you the many notable distinctions the Houston metro area has earned over the years. But the most recent chart topping statistic is no badge of honor. Houston now leads the nation as the most distracted – and deadliest – city behind the wheel. Flying high above Houston’s freeways and rural county roads, every day Memorial Hermann Life Flight® sees the devastating toll these preventable tragedies take on our families, friends and neighbors.

And that’s why Memorial Hermann Life Flight is committed to driving change in our communities.

SAFE 2 SAVE

To help combat distracted driving in the Greater Houston area, Memorial Hermann Life Flight recently teamed up with SAFE 2 SAVE, a mobile app that rewards drivers for not using their cellphones while driving. As a leader in trauma care and home to the Red Duke Trauma Institute at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, one of the nation’s busiest Level I trauma centers, Memorial Hermann Health System is working with SAFE 2 SAVE to tackle the life-threatening epidemic.

THE PROBLEM OF DISTRACTED DRIVING

In a technology addicted society, distracted driving has become a huge epidemic. According to National Safety Council, every seven seconds someone is injured in motor vehicle crashes and every 15 minutes someone dies. A driver is 23 times more likely to crash when texting and driving; the majority of these crashes involve young drivers ages 16 to 34.

IMPLEMENTING CHANGE

To affectively address the #1 most preventable death among our young people and change behavioral patterns, SAFE 2 SAVE has developed a platform that creates a positive rewards system and accountability to a loved one. Users who "Don't Tech and Drive," accumulate points that they can redeem for discounts at their favorite local and online businesses.

COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES

SAFE 2 SAVE has remained free for users since its initial launch in 2016. Competitions are hosted by schools and companies that can be sponsored by local law firms, insurance companies, banks or car dealerships.

I acknowledge that when I’m driving distracted, I’m putting myself, my loved ones and my fellow Houstonians at risk. I pledge to drive change for Houston by downloading the SAFE 2 SAVE app, sponsored by Memorial Hermann Life Flight, bringing the Live Your DREAMS program to a high school near me, and/or educating myself and my loved ones on safe driving behaviors.
