Memorial Hermann
School of Medical Radiography
Advanced Level: Magnetic Resonance Imaging Program
If you interest is in training as an Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologist or if you are currently working in MRI and wish to prepare for the ARRT advanced MRI registry exam, this program is designed for you.
This comprehensive program provides the registered radiologic technologist the essential knowledge and practical clinical skills to perform MRI examinations. This program of didactic instruction and competency-based clinical experience will also prepare technologists for the ARRT advanced registry in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
Clinical competency exams required by the ARRT can be accomplished at your facility or at a Memorial Hermann-affiliated clinical site. Memorial Hermann clinical sites are limited; therefore enrollment utilizing the Memorial Hermann affiliations for clinical will be limited to the number clinical sites available.
The MRI class will meet Wednesday 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Applications are being accepted until Jan. 15, 2008 (must be postmarked on or before Jan. 15, 2008). Download and submit your application.
Program fee is $2,000.
Two study tracks are available:
Track 1 – This track is for the working MRI technologist who does not have an advanced MRI registry. These students have access to forty hours of clinical experience each week. Working hours will be considered “clinical experience”. Students are required to attend all classes and their clinical competencies will be monitored to insure compliance with the ARRT requirements.
Track 2 – This track is designed for the student requiring clinical experience to meet the ARRT requirements and not working in MRI. Clinical experience will be made available through a Memorial Hermann affiliate site. To obtain competency the student must be present and active at an affiliate site at least three eight hour shifts per week. Dependent upon affiliate sites availability for student participation evening and week end shifts may be available.
This program is approved by the ASRT for category A Continuing Education (CE hours). All clinical hours as well as classroom hours must be completed in order to receive CE credits.
Program Objectives
This program is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of MR image acquisition and prepare participants for the ARRT advanced registry in MRI.
The didactic portion of the course provides information in the use and manipulation of hardware and technical parameters to produce quality MR images. Included are a thorough review of MR physics, technical imaging parameter, cross sectional anatomy and positioning, and the use of contrast media, patient care and patient safety.
The clinical portion of the program allows the participants the opportunity to apply the skills necessary for patient and personnel safety, to practice the skills necessary for obtaining high quality MR images, practice advanced procedures, and post process MR images.
The student will have will be able to access facilities, personnel and educational materials to completely achieve the course objectives.
Prerequisite and admission criteria:
