Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE)
Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) objectively measure an individual's functional abilities so that an examiner can give recommendations based on the client’s observed limitations, physical job demands and safety.
The FCE contains the following three elements:
- A comprehensive physical examination and neurological evaluation of the individual's strength, flexibility, posture and neurological condition.
- Functional abilities tests including activities of daily living, hand function tests, cardiovascular endurance, static positional tolerance and physical manual tasks specific to the examinee’s job.
- Submaximal effort level, which is monitored, assessed and documented throughout the evaluation.
The evaluation normally takes three to four hours, and we will mail/fax a summary report to the referring physician, case manager, insurance carrier and/or employer within two to three business days.
