As a Memorial Hermann employee, you have access to a lifestyle program focused on helping prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes. PreventT2 will help you achieve your health and wellness goals, regardless of what those might be.
What is PreventT2?
PreventT2 is a yearlong program designed specifically to help employees with prediabetes prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes. Part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), PreventT2 helps employees with prediabetes improve their health and prevent developing diabetes through education, support and realistic lifestyle changes. This lifestyle program has been shown to decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58%.
Risk factors for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes include:
- Being 45 years of age or older
- Being overweight
- Exercising fewer than three times per week
- Having a family history of type 2 diabetes
- Having a history of gestational diabetes
As part of a PreventT2 group, employees will work with other participants and a trained lifestyle coach to learn the tools needed to make lasting changes. Being part of the group provides support from others who are facing similar challenges and trying to make the same lifestyle changes. During the first six months, participants will attend 16 foundation sessions. To help maintain your new healthy lifestyle, you will have monthly follow-ups with your lifestyle coach for the remainder of the year.
PreventT2 is open to all eligible employees meeting certain requirements, but classes are currently held at Memorial City.
