Performance Testing & Evaluation
At the Roger Clemens Institute for Sports Medicine & Human Performance, physicians and highly trained staff help athletes - professional, competitive or recreational - to compete at their highest level of performance.

The Institute’s staff works to improve your overall conditioning with evaluations to measure your current performance capabilities.

Evaluating the Athletes
Performance testing services available at the Roger Clemens Institute include:

  • VO2 Max is the peak oxygen use of an athlete at maximum exercise and is measured in milliliters of oxygen. This metabolic test is an excellent indicator of aerobic fitness.
  • Anaerobic Threshold (AT) is a powerful and reliable predictor of performance in anaerobic exercise, AT testing complements VO2 max scores. Elite endurance athletes have a high AT, typically 80 to 90 percent of their VO2 max score.
  • Body Composition Analysis measures the amount of fat versus lean muscle tissue as a percentage of an athlete’s total weight.
  • 3D Biomechanical and Gait Analysis is a real-time motion-capture system that helps staff evaluate your sport-specific pattern to identify biomechanical problems and determine the most appropriate therapy or conditioning regimen for injury prevention or sports performance.
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG) provides information about the physical condition of the heart, including electrical voltage, arrhythmias and conduction abnormalities. It can also detect disturbances in potassium, calcium, magnesium and other electrolytes that can reduce cardiac efficiency during exercise.
  • Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the minimum number of calories needed to support the body’s basic physiological functions. As a quantitative measure of metabolism efficiency, RMR is critical to athletes who wish to gain, lose or maintain body weight.
  • Flexibility Assessment measures range of joint motion using a clinical goniometer.  The assessment can help to identify tight muscle groups that may be susceptible to injury.
  • Nutritional Assessment and Consultation is a proactive approach to determining an athlete’s nutritional needs based on body type, sport, metabolic rate and short- and long-term performance goals.
