Getting Insurance Approval
Here are the steps you need to take in order to get your health insurance provider to cover your visit to the Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic
- Call your health insurance provider and explain the visit.
- Ask your insurance company if Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and physicians at the University of Texas Medical School are in-network providers.
- Verify coverage and whether or not a referral from your child's primary care physician is needed. If a referral is needed from your PCP, please have them fax it to:
TSC Clinic
Attn: Gayla Roberson, RNC - TSC Clinic Coordinator
(713) 500-0719 fax
At your initial visit to the TSC Clinic, you will see two physicians. For this reason, if a referral is needed from your PCP, you will need to have referrals for Dr. Hope Northrup, Genetics, and Dr. Ian Butler, Neurology.
Please note that due to seeing two physicians you are required by insurance to pay separate co-pays for each physician seen even though they are seen at the same visit. At subsequent visits it may not be necessary to see both physicians. Follow-up visits will be done on an as-needed basis, with necessary referrals done at the time of each visit.
