Forensic Nursing Services

Our Pediatric Emergency Center offers a special program for children called Forensic Nursing Services. Through the program, registered nurses provide comprehensive care 24 hours a day to patients with interpersonal violence issues.

The Forensic Nursing Services team travels to six other hospitals in the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in its mobile unit. This unique service began in 1992 as an adult sexual assault nurse examiner program. It was revitalized in 2001 to provide nurses who respond to all victims of crime, including physically and sexually abused children.

The Pediatric Emergency Center houses a room containing specialized equipment for use in assessments. Information gained from evaluations is passed on to law enforcement agencies.

Forensic Nursing Services works as a multidisciplinary team to bridge the gap between healthcare and law enforcement.
