James E. Baumgartner, MD

James Baumgartner is a pediatric neurosurgeon associated with Pediatric Neurosurgical Specialists, an affiliate of Memorial Hermann. A graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine, he also has a master’s degree in pharmacology from Cambridge University. He completed his neurosurgery residency and fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the University of California, San Francisco.

Baumgartner is board certified in neurosurgery. He has a special interest in neural tumors, craniofacial anomalies and the surgical treatment of epilepsy.

Pediatric neurosurgery involves the evaluation and treatment of cranial, spinal and peripheral nerve disorders in infants, children and adolescents. Common problems treated include hydrocephalus, brain and spinal cord tumors, intractable epilepsy, spina bifida, craniofacial disorders and brain or spine trauma.

Stephen A. Fletcher, DO

Stephen A. Fletcher, DO graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in biochemistry. His medical degree was granted from North Texas State University Health Sciences Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. Neurosurgical training was completed at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston. A pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas and at Dallas Children's Hospital complimented his neurosurgical training.

Dr. Fletcher is board certified in Neurosurgery and is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas Medical School. He is Chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery and has special interests in brain tumors and vascular problems in children.  Current research interests include surgical options for Chiari Malformations and evolving treatment regimens for children with severe brain edema due to head injury. Dr. Fletcher holds clinical appointments and has had privileges at hospitals in Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, United Arab Emirates, Bolivia, Honduras, and Grand Cayman Island.
