Play
is a natural and spontaneous part of people’s lives.
It helps children learn about their own capabilities, social
rules and problem solving and is critical to healthy development. |
Play also facilitates communication, especially for children who have
not yet developed the verbal skills needed for expressing feelings.
Play promotes successful behavior and self-esteem.
Play
therapy helps children express their feelings and life situations
through toys rather than words. Specially trained to provide an environment
of acceptance, empathy and understanding, play therapists help a
child feel accepted and understood. This allows them to gain a sense
of control and understanding of their personal experiences.
Play therapy is
recommended for children experiencing difficult times, including
the divorce of their parents, problems making friends or adjusting
to changes at school or home.
