The site of Houston’s first liver transplant in 1985, today Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center continues to break new ground in the treatment of end-stage liver disease. Through the Texas Liver Center, Memorial Hermann leads the region as the most comprehensive and innovative treatment facility for patients with chronic and acute liver disease due to:

Recent expansion of the pediatric, living-related and small-bowel transplant programs, along with advances in medical management for patients with hepatitis C, has propelled the Texas Liver Center to national prominence.
  

In 2004 the Texas Liver Center transplant team, together with the surgical intensive care unit at Memorial Hermann, was honored with a National Award for Excellence from the American Liver Foundation. The team performs more than 50 liver transplants annually, with a one-year survival rate exceeding 90 percent.
