Nutrition Management for Kidney Transplant Patients
If your new kidney is functioning well, many of your previous restrictions may not apply or will be quickly relaxed after transplant surgery.
A dietitian will meet with you in the hospital and review the post-transplant lipid lowering diet. You will meet with the dietitian in the outpatient clinic during the first month after your transplant and a nutrition plan to meet your personal needs will be developed based on your weight, lab work and kidney function.
Healthy meals that include lean meats, plenty of fruits and vegetables, healthy oils and whole grains (while limiting sugar) are used to help prevent or manage post-transplant obesity, diabetes and hyperlipidemia. |
