Knee and Hip Replacement
If weight loss, exercise and medication have failed to give you a relief from osteoarthritis or if your mobility is severely limited, it may be time to consider joint replacement. Performed successfully for many years with excellent results, joint replacement has allowed thousands of people who are severely disabled to return to a life of activity. View slideshow.
Thanks to advances in replacement materials and technology, today’s hip and knee replacements are likely to last 15 to 20 years, depending on your weight and the amount of stress you place on the joint. Highly advanced techniques in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and computer-assisted surgery (CAS) used at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center mean quicker recoveries for our patients. Typically, patients begin weight-bearing and motion of the hip or knee the day after surgery and can usually walk without assistance within three to four weeks.
