Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital
Bladder Health Center
A multidisciplinary approach for diagnostic evaluation and treatment of dysfunctions associated with the lower urinary tract and pelvic floor are available at the Bladder Health Center at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands.
At the Center, highly qualified, experienced specialists and technologically advanced equipment combine to produce a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and treatment plan for incontinence (men’s and women’s) and pelvic floor disorders.
Incontinence Facts
- As many as 25 million Americans suffer from bladder control problems, and at least 80 percent are women.
- Less than 1/2 of them have been evaluated and/or treated, because they are too embarrassed to talk about it and are unaware it can be treated.
- Up to five percent of men 64 years of age and younger and up to 15 percent of men over 64 experience bladder leakage.
- It is not a condition limited only to senior citizens. Young people are affected including athletic women, new mothers, and those suffering from an illness, birth defect or physical trauma such as surgery or a spinal cord injury.
- The involuntary loss of urine is not a disease, but a symptom of an underlying condition.
- More than 70 percent of individuals who experience urinary incontinence can have the cause corrected and/or improved with appropriate treatment.
Diagnostic Services
- Fluoroscopically guided multichannel urodynamic testing
- Non-video multichannel urodynamic testing
- Urodynamic studies allows the physician to pinpoint the reason the bladder has problems storing and/or emptying urine, and to assess the neurological coordination of the urethral and bladder musculature. Individualized treatment plans can then be implemented
Treatment Services
- EMG biofeedback
- Pelvic floor rehabilitation therapy
- Incontinence education
- Self catheterization instruction and support
- Sacral nerve stimulation test procedure
- Referral for pelvic reconstructive surgery
When properly instructed and performed, a combination of behavioral therapy and biofeedback therapy may result in a 50-95 percent improvement in incontinence, depending on the primary diagnosis.
