MammoSite HDR
MammoSite HDR allows for quick and accurate radiation treatment of the breast soon after a cancerous tumor has been surgically removed. Before the breast surgery is completed, the surgeon places a MammoSite catheter in the space where the tumor was removed. this allows the HDR treatment source to travel through the catheter to the exact location of the tumor and treat the surrounding breast tissue with a precise dose of radiation.
Prostate Seed Implant Radiation Therapy
Also known as brachytherapy, prostate seed implants deliver a high dose of radiation to cancerousprostate tissue and limit the exposure to surrounding organs. Tiny radioactive pellets called “seeds” are implanted directly into the prostate, minimizing the dose of radiation to the bladder and rectum. The use of ultrasound guidance ensures accurate seed implantation and effective distribution. Multileaf Collimator (MLC)
Our computer-controlled, 120-0.5 cm-leaf MLC accurately designs the size and shape of a radiation beam to conform to the tumor during the treatment planning process. Individually adjusted metal “leaves” vary beam
intensity by blocking and filtering to protect healthy tissue and ensure precise distribution of radiation therapy.
PET/CT
PET/CT combines the cancer locating ability of PET imaging with the detailed anatomy imaging of CT to identify exactly where a tumor is located and what internal structures are involved. The radiation oncologist and physicist then merge and import this data into their radiation planning computers to precisely model how a radiation beam can be directed to strike and shrink the tumor while missing or minimally affecting vital organs and structures. The linear accelerator or HDR treatment unit is then programmed to deliver the plan exactly.
Genetic Testing
Most cancers are not hereditary but in a small number of families, cancer may be caused by specific genetic factors that are passed from one generation to the next. Our program includes cancer risk assessments/education and genetic testing for individuals at high risk for hereditary breast, ovarian, colorectal and endometrial cancer.
CT Simulator
CT simulation transmits X-rays through tissue to create a graphic display of the tumor and surrounding normal tissue. Using a high-speed, high-capacity computer, the CT simulator helps physicians understand the complex relationship between healthy and cancerous tissues. The information is recorded, analyzed and used to design an optimal treatment plan.

Monthly Tumor Board
Medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, radiologists and pathologists meet monthly to discuss the specifics of care delivered to individual patients. Progress made by four or five patients is reviewed each month, and treatment options are discussed to ensure the best possible outcome for each patient. |
