Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital
The Pediatric Observation Unit (POU) provides specialized and routine short-term care to children who require 23 hours of observation or less. Our experienced health care team provides multidisciplinary episodic care to young patients who require intravenous infusions, blood transfusions, post-surgery monitoring or evaluation for admission to the hospital.
Private physicians and faculty members of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston refer patients to the unit for specialized treatments and procedures. Our nurses stay current with new skills and knowledge through continuing education programs.
Child life specialists experienced in helping children and families adjust to their stay in the hospital are available to visit children in their rooms to help them prepare for procedures, to provide support before and after procedures and to provide play therapy.
