Speech Therapy for Children & Adults

Our outpatient speech therapy program provides comprehensive assessment and therapeutic services for children and adults with speech, swallowing and language deficit disorders. To achieve the best outcome for each patient, our expert speech-language pathologists communicate and collaborate with families, teachers and referring doctors.

Our treatment goals focus on improving speech and language communication skills, oral-motor skills, thinking skills such as memory and problem-solving, swallowing function, and emotional adjustment and social interaction in the home, community, and workplace.

We address the individual needs of patients diagnosed with a wide range of disorders, including, but not limited to:

• Aphasia
• Apraxia
• Dysarthria
• Dysphagia

Our scope of expertise also includes treating patients with vocal cord and voice disorders, childhood language disorders, autism, developmental delay, dementia and other neurological deficits and disorders.

Unique capabilities include:

• Vital Stim^®
  With the guidance of a speech pathologist, treatment may involve incorporating compensatory strategies when eating (including chin tuck, frequent swallows or checking mouth), altering food consistencies (including soft, pureed or chopped) and specialized eating/drinking equipment.
• Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT^®) for Neurological Disorders
  LSVT is an effective speech treatment for individuals with Parkinson disease and other neurological conditions. This goal of this treatment is to improve vocal loudness without strain and maximize speech intelligibility.
• Modified Barium Swallow Studies
  A modified barium swallow study is a special X-ray used to check swallowing skills. Performed onsite with the speech-language pathologist and a board-certified radiologist, this test identifies what types of foods and liquids are safe to swallow. It also allows the therapist to identify positions and techniques to help teach patients how to swallow safely and more easily.
