Laura Hayes is an RN, BSN, CDE and Diabetes Program Coordinator at Memorial Hermann (MH) Katy Hospital. Laura brings to the Outpatient Diabetes Management Program expertise in insulin management, pump training, and gestational diabetes. Laura is best known in the diabetes circuit for her talent to provide motivation to those living well with a chronic illness. For nearly 12 years as MH Med Center’s inpatient CDE Laura worked and trained with leading UT Endocrinologists. There, she co-authored a lecture series for UT interns and residents on inpatient diabetes management, developed an insulin algorithm and education piece for blood glucose management, and designed an algorithm guideline for the treatment of hypoglycemia in the conscious and unconscious patient. Laura has had type 1 diabetes for over 42 years. |

Shirley Chambers is an MEd, RD, LD CDE who specializes in Stress Management, Diabetes Education, Weight Management, and Cardiovascular Nutrition. She served as a nutrition faculty member at the University of Houston for 13 years, as well as Director of the Dietetics Program. For 10 years, Shirley was an instructor at the Mind/Body Institute, Cardiac Rehabilitation/Wellness Program at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. In 2002, Shirley co-authored Meal Solutions for Busy People. She has extensive experience in public speaking, radio/TV, writing, corporate wellness programs, weight management programs, and supermarket tours. She has presented at the American Association of Diabetes Educators national conference, as well as local and state professional seminars and CE programs. Additional Awards include: Distinguished Alumni Award, Sam Houston State University; Outstanding Internship Preceptor, Dietetic Internship, University of Houston.

Claudia Scott is an MS, RD, LD who specializes in Clinical Nutrition, Diabetes Education, and Weight Management. She is a fluent Spanish speaker and enjoys teaching Diabetes Education classes in the Spanish language. Claudia is the Assistant Dietetic Internship Director for the University of Houston Dietetic Internship Program and has been a Nutrition faculty member at the University of Houston for the last 4 years. This year Claudia was honored with the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award for the Houston area. She has had extensive experience in public speaking and media. Most recently she teamed up with the NBC weight loss show “The Biggest Loser” as their local Dietitian and she co-authored "The Latina Diet," an ongoing article for the nationally distributed "Latina Magazine" detailing ways to make healthy eating choices without giving up flavor. Claudia is just a few months away from taking the Certified Diabetes Education exam.
