Getting To and Around the Hospital
Parking/Valet parking and rates: All parking is free of charge. We suggest that you and your visitors use the parking garage on Frostwood or any of the parking areas that surround the hospital. Persons arriving to the hospital after-hours are encouraged to park in the Gessner Parking Lot. Handicap parking is available in all parking lots as well as the garage. Should you desire a security escort to your car, please dial ext. 3428.
For Patients
24 Hour CareLine: We hope your stay with us is as pleasant as possible. We welcome the opportunity to act on your comments and suggestions and invite you to call our CareLine at ext. 3501 from your patient room, if a question or concern arises. The 24-Hour CareLine was implemented to provide an immediate an efficient response to our patient's and visitor's needs.

Comfort and Safety: There are several ways things you can do to make your stay comfortable and safe.
- Wear your identification bracelet at all times during your stay.
- Ask for assistance when getting in and out of bed.
- Wear only shoes which have non-skid soles and support for your feet. (slippers with no backs can be unsafe.)
Hearing-Impaired aids: Telecommunication devices for the hearing impaired are available in our hospital:

Language assistance: If your are in need of a foreign language or sigh language interpreter, please notify your nurse or call the Patient Relations Department at ext. 2020.
Meals: Patients on regular and modified diets may select their next day's meals from a daily menu provided by a volunteer or included on their breakfast tray. Dieticians are available to assess your nutritional status and assist in planning your meals. For assistance with your meals please contact your nurse or call the 24-hour CareLine at ext. 3501.
Medical Records for Release of Information: After receiving treatment at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, you may require copies of your medical records. Copies of records can be requested from Release of Information at 713.242.3401 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Unless medically urgent, requests are handled within 15 business days. Located on the first floor. There is no charge for records requested for continued patient care, which are sent directly to the physician. For all other requests the fees / charges will comply with all laws and regulations. Payment is due at the time of release.
Pain Management: How to communicate your pain: We ask that you help doctors and nurses measure your pain. Doctors and nurses will ask you to rate your pain on a scale of “0 to 10” or you may choose a “face” on the scale which best describe your pain.
Patient Relations: Because we care about the quality of services you receive at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, the Patient Relations Department is available to assist you with any questions, concerns or grievances you may have during your stay with us. You can reach the Patient Relations Department Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by dialing ext 2020. After hours, please call the 24-Hour CareLine at ext. 3501. Patient Station: The 15-inch flat touch screen acts as your television. At no additional charge, you can tune in to local TV channels, watch relaxation videos, or get healthcare information. For a small daily fee, premium options are available, including cable TV channels, games, high speed internet w/ webcam, and radio. If you need assistance operating your patient station, please contact your nurse.
Social Services / Case Management: Social workers and case managers are available to assist patients and families with counseling, discharge planning, and resource referrals. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of an individual's health care team, these representatives coordinate and facilitate assisted living or nursing placements such as assisted living and nursing home, linkage to public services, and community resources and the discharge process. Speak to your nurse or dial ext. 3429 for more information.
Support Groups: A wide variety of support groups are available at Memorial City and throughout the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System. Please call 713.222.CARE (2273) for more information.

- To dial long distance, dial 0 for the operator.
Your TV: Depending on the room to which you are assigned, you will find one of the following television systems. Traditional television system:
- To turn your TV on, push the button marked TV
- To change the channel, push the same button and release
- To turn off your TV, push the same button and hold. It will go through several channels and turn off automatically
- Use the dial control to adjust the TV volume.
For Visitors
Automated Teller Machines (ATMs): There are 2 Automated Teller Machines on campus. One is located in the lobby of the West Pavilion and the other is in the East Tower Lobby
Gift Shops: Located on the first floor of the North Tower, our gift shop has flowers, stationery, gifts, magazines, etc. to brighten any patient's room. The hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Gift Shop can be contacted at ext. 3930.
Hotels: Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center has established discounted medical rates at many area hotels to assist patients and their families and visitors. To obtain a list of these hotels, please dial ext. 2020 or call the hospital operator.
Information desk: The patient Information Desk is located in the lobby of the North Tower. This desk is staffed from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week. You can reach the Patient Information Desk by dialing ext. 3840. Additional information desks are located in the lobbies of the West Pavilion and the East Tower.
Library: The Lindig Men's Health Center and Resource Library is designed to provide the community with information on all aspects of men's health including wellness, preventive health, and treatment options. Located on the first floor of the hospital, the Center's Library offers a range of information services, including medical encyclopedias, dictionaries, and internet access through five computers. With input from medical staff physicians, the Center's staff selected a variety of reliable medical websites and linked them to the Center's home page on the web. We invite you to stop in and visit us.
Magazines and Books: Looking for something to read or browse through? Call out volunteer Department at ext. 3830 to request a selection of magazines and books.
Meditation/Chapel/Prayer Rooms: We believe the spiritual and emotional care of our patients and their families is an important aspect of the care we provide. Hospital chaplains are available to listen, assist in crises situations, for grief counseling, prayer support, devotional needs, notification of local clergy, assisting with ethical issues, and advance directive (living will) counseling. Chaplaincy Services hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A chaplain is on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the chapel, which is located on the first floor of the Central Pavilion, is always open. Chapel services are held on special occasions and religious holidays. If you would like a visit from the hospital chaplain, please dial ext. 3849.
Restrooms: Public restrooms are located on each floor of the hospital. To ensure the privacy of our patients, we ask that your visitors use only the public restrooms rather than the one in the patient's room.
Smoking: Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center recognizes the hazards of smoking and has adopted a no smoking policy. Patients, visitors, employees, physicians, and volunteers are not permitted to smoke inside the hospital under any circumstances. The designate smoking area is located on the first floor of the central pavilion, behind the Cath Lab Waiting Area. Please do not smoke in other areas including those outside the hospital.
Visiting hours and guidelines
Children under 12 years of age are not permitted in patient areas, waiting rooms, or the hospital lobbies without adult supervision. Visitors will be limited to two per patient in semi-private rooms. We ask that small children not be brought into isolation rooms.

For the comfort and safety of our patients and visitors please respect the following rules:
- All visitors after 9 p.m. will be required to register with security to obtain a visitors pass. Security is located on the first floor of the North Tower (ext. 3428)
- No bedding or linens allowed in the MICU and SICU waiting areas.
- The doors in the 3rd and 4th floors are badge accessed only, from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
Standard visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. All visitors under the age of 16 must leave the hospital by 9 p.m. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted in patient care areas, waiting rooms, or lobbies without adult supervision.
For the safety and security of our patients, staff and visitors, any adult visitor who remains in the hospital after 9 p.m. or arrives after 9 p.m. must obtain a pass from the security office, located on the first floor of the East Tower or Emergency Center.
Only one visitor may spend the night in a private patient room on general patient floors. Visitors may not spend the night in double occupied semi-private rooms. Patients in the critical care units may have only two visitors at a time, for brief periods. This is necessary because of patient privacy, space constraints and the nature of the care provided in these units.
Generally, visitors may not stay overnight in the critical care units, but may remain in one of the critical care waiting areas. The hospital is not able to provide sleep space, linens or shower facilities for family members or visitors.
Visitors may not stay overnight in the hospital lobbies. If not at the patient's bedside, visitors must remain in the nursing unit's waiting area. For general sanitation and infection control reasons, we recommend that visitors not sleep on the floor anywhere in the hospital, including the critical care waiting areas.
Only beverages are permitted in the waiting area; food is not permitted. Please do not bring camping equipment such as cots, sleeping bags, or coolers into the hospital.
It may be necessary to limit the number of visitors in the waiting areas during the day.
AFTER HOURS – Entering and Leaving the Hospital
The West Lobby, North Lobby and Skybridge to Garages 1 and 3 are open till 9:00 p.m. These entrances are exit-only after that time.
The East Lobby doors on Gessner are open till midnight. These doors are exit only after that time.
After midnight all visitors must enter the hospital through the main Emergency Department entrance.
The security officer on duty will call the patient's nursing unit and issue a visitor pass to those approved to stay.
Money and Valuables
We recommend that you leave all valuables at home. The hospital is not responsible for patients' or visitors' belongings such as watches, rings, glasses, hearing aides, money, dentures, or prosthetic devices. If necessary, your nurse can arrange to store your small items in the hospital safe. If you secure items with the hospital, remember that you will have to present a receipt for later retrieval.
Denture Care
If you wear dentures, please inform your nurse so that she/he can supply you with a denture cup.
- When your dentures are not in place, they should be in the denture cup.
- Please DO NOT wrap your dentures in Kleenex, washcloths, towels, etc.
- Please DO NOT place your dentures on your meal tray.
- Please DO NOT place your dentures under your pillow, on your sheets, or in any concealed place.
Eye Glasses
To prevent loss or breakage of your glasses/hearing aides while you are hospitalized, please follow these guidelines.
- Please DO NOT leave your glasses/hearing aides unprotected on the bedside table.
- Please DO NOT put your glasses/hearing aides in the pocket of your gown.
- Please DO NOT lay your glasses/hearing aides on your meal tray or your bed sheets at any time.
Lost and Found: Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center does not assume responsibility for lost articles but will make every effort to assist you in locating lost items. During your inpatient stay, ask your nurse for assistance regarding lost articles or call Lost and Found at ext. 3830.

Ethics Concerns and Advance Directives
Notary public: Complimentary notary public services are available to our patients for medical documents only. Please dial ext. 2020 or the hospital operator for assistance. For non-medical documents, please contact an outside agency such as the U.P.S. store (713.465.3922), which is just located just behind the hospital on Kingsride.

Security
For your safety, all Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center staff wear nametag identification badges. Should your feel uncomfortable with hospital personnel at any time, please call the nurses station. Security personnel are available to assist you at any time and are happy to escort you and visitors to your vehicles. Security can be reached at ext. 3428.
