The inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Memorial Hermann Northwest offers a comprehensive program designed to help patients optimize their functional abilities and develop routines to suit their needs.
If you have suffered a life-altering event, accident or illness that limits your functional capabilities or have an ongoing condition affecting your mobility and ability to perform daily tasks, our rehabilitation services may be able to help you.
Our dedicated inpatient Rehabilitation Unit includes the following services:
- 24-hour nursing by an experienced, dedicated and caring staff
- Physician-coordinated multidisciplinary care planning that addresses the unique needs of the patient, including restoration of function and compensation for lost skills
- Therapy and assistance provided by highly trained physical, occupational and speech therapists, as well as case managers and social workers
- Post-discharge planning for outpatient services, day treatment, home care or extended care facility-based treatment
- Training for daily life in a mock-up kitchen, bathroom and bedroom to help patients practice activities of daily living (ADLs).
Conditions, illnesses or events that require inpatient rehabilitation include:
- Non-traumatic brain injury
- Stroke and other neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barre syndrome
- Non-traumatic spinal cord injury
- Orthopedic disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis, hip fractures and joint replacement with complications
- Amputation
- Medical trauma
Medical Director Ignazio LaChina, M.D. oversees patient treatment. His specialty is physical medicine and rehabilitation. Purvi Desai, M.D., also oversees patient treatment. She is board eligible in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Once you and your personal physician determine that inpatient rehabilitation will benefit you, members of our rehabilitation team will perform a thorough evaluation. Your relationship with your physician is important to us, and we welcome him or her to remain on your case as a consultant.
Medicare covers comprehensive medical rehabilitation services when patients meet specific criteria, and many other insurance plans also provide benefits.
Hours of Operation:
The Memorial Hermann Northwest Rehabilitation Unit operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Therapy services are provided Monday through Saturday.
