Volunteer at Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital

Shani Corbiere, Volunteer Supervisor

"Come volunteer with us at the friendliest hospital in Houston.

I have volunteered here for many years and can say without hesitation that we have the best group of volunteers anywhere, great hospital staff and a hospital that is small enough that everyone knows your name."

Living a life that matters does not happen by accident. It's not a matter of circumstance but a choice.

Come live a life that matters with us.

At Memorial Hermann Northwest, committed volunteers are the keys to our success. We invite you to make a difference in someone’s life – bring a smile to an elderly patient or comfort a frightened child.

As a Memorial Hermann volunteer, you will be an integral part of an organization that has served the community for nearly 50 years. Our goal is to ensure that the volunteer experience at Memorial Hermann is as rewarding to the volunteer as it is beneficial to the patients, families, visitors and caregivers.

This is where you will find a place that provides exceptional care and clinical excellence for the Northwest community. This is a place where you can make a difference for someone in a time of need, console patients during a crisis or guide our visitors throughout the hospital.

Volunteer Profile

Adult volunteers (minimum of 18 years old) are asked to commit to volunteering four hours a week for a minimum of one year.

Volunteers are educated about the importance of ethics and confidentiality, professional behavior and appearance, proper patient interaction, including age-specific competencies, universal precautions, infection control, fire safety and security.  An annual TB-skin test is required to become a volunteer.

Unit-specific training is provided for each placement. It is possible to cross-train a volunteer in several different areas of the hospital. Every effort is made to match the applicant's skills, abilities, schedule and interests with the hospital's needs.

Memorial Hermann Northwest volunteers represent a variety of professions, age groups, physical abilities and ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

All have made the commitment to donate their time to patients, families and visitors and become part of Memorial Hermann team.

Junior Volunteer Program

Teen volunteers, students 15-17 years old, have the opportunity to volunteer during the summer, or volunteer year-round beginning with a summer placement.

Our Junior Volunteer Program begins in June. We will begin accepting applications March 1st. Applicants will be screened and interviewed in early April and selections will be made in May.
