General Neuroscience Services
At Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, we offer programs and procedures to treat a wide variety of neurological disorders and conditions conveniently in Southwest Houston. Our scope of services includes the diagnosis and/or treatment of:
Diagnostic Services
In association with Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-Southwest, we ensure the highest-quality diagnostic services. Patients have access to some of the most advanced diagnostic technologies available, including:
- 64-slice computed tomography (CT)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- PET/CT scan
Remote Physician System- Robot Technology
Our telemedicine capabilities include the use of robot technology that allows physicians to collaborate with each other and view patients from remote locations. Through this innovative device, a patient at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital can be seen by the very best UT physician even if that physician is located at another hospital.
The Remote Presence System robot is fully portable and equipped with two-way audio/video, allowing physicians to see and hear patients and view monitors and other clinical data firsthand. Medical devices such as a digital stethoscope or pulse oximeter can be plugged into the robot, enabling firsthand remote diagnostics. This reduces the burden on nursing staff to describe or explain subtle changes in a patient’s condition. Physicians can then consult directly with other physicians and specialists to discuss treatment.
Stroke Center
The Neuroscience Center at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital is recognized by The Joint Commission (TJC) as Primary Level 2 Stroke Center, offering the expertise and procedures needed to quickly identify and treat stroke patients.
Patients also benefit from the hospital’s close affiliation with Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. We can use telemedicine technology to enable physicians at The Texas Medical Center to observe our patients, help with diagnosis and assist with treatment. By tapping network-wide expertise through the use of real-time imaging technology, physicians and staff at Memorial Hermann Southwest are better able to:
- Provide advanced care and aggressive treatment
- Collaborate and fully evaluate patients within the critical three-hour treatment window
- Interact and communicate in a virtual clinic environment
Stroke patients who require hospitalization can expect the highest level of care. Memorial Hermann Southwest has a 25-bed unit devoted to neurology patients, staffed by nurses who are stroke-scale certified by the National Institutes of Health. Physical therapy is available in-room or at the well-equipped rehabilitation center located on the neurology floor.
