Adult Volunteer Program

The Adult Program is best suited for long-term volunteers (18 years old or older) that want to serve the Hospital and its patients.

  • Commitment: Adult Program volunteers must be able to serve one four-hour shift per week for at least one year.
  • Application: All potential volunteers who can meet the above commitment are asked to fill out an online application located on this webpage. Please do not apply for the Adult Volunteer Program if you are not able to make the year-long commitment.
  • Interview: Volunteer staff will review and select candidates based on their applications in order to set up a one-on-one interview to be completed in person. If you are selected to be a part of the Adult Volunteer Program, you will be asked to complete an online background check as well as pass a general health screen which is provided at no cost to you by our organization.
  • Orientation: All potential volunteers must pass the background check, health screen and interview process before attending an orientation. Once completed, a coordinator will assign the candidate to an upcoming orientation. Orientations are held biweekly and last no more than three hours. Individuals will learn about the Organization, what it means to volunteer, policies, rules and regulations.
  • Training: Each volunteer will receive training at their assigned area before beginning volunteer work with a Hospital unit or department.

College Volunteer Program

We are excited to announce the creation of our College Volunteer Program is best suited for full-time college students (ages 18-24) interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. It is a twelve week program offered during both fall and spring semesters, requiring the college student to serve one four hour shift each week, not missing any assignments.

  • Commitment: The College Volunteer Program requires the student to be enrolled in an accredited higher education institution full-time, attend the mandatory orientation and to serve at least four hours every week, not missing any shifts during the College Volunteer Program (excluding holidays and breaks).
  • Application: All volunteers who can meet the above commitment are asked to fill out an online application which will is made available on this webpage. Please do not apply for the College Volunteer Program if you are not able to make the commitment.
  • Interview: Volunteer staff will review and select candidates based on their applications in order to set up a one-on-one interview to be completed in person. If you are selected to be a part of the College Volunteer Program, you will be asked to complete an online background check as well as pass a general health screen which is provided at no cost to you by our organization.
  • Orientation: All potential volunteers must pass the background check, health screen and interview process before attending an orientation. Individuals will learn about the organization, what it means to volunteer, policies, rules and regulations.
  • Training: Each student will receive one-the-job training in their assigned placements by Memorial Hermann Southwest staff during their first official day of volunteering.
  • Volunteer: Students will volunteer a minimum of four service hours per week throughout the twelve week program. Recommendation letters are provided to those students who meet all Program requirements.

Summer Junior Volunteer Program

The Summer Junior Volunteer Program is for high school students (minimum age 16 years old). The application for the 2018 Summer Junior Volunteer Program will is available on this webpage. The Summer Junior Volunteer Program is a seven week program that will begin with a mandatory volunteer orientation tentatively scheduled for June 8, 2018 with the program ending July 27, 2018.

There is a $17 uniform cost associated with this Program. All accepted teens are to purchase a red Volunteer Services polo with proceeds donated to fund the Memorial Hermann Southwest Auxiliary. Receipts for the donation can be made available for tax purposes when requested.

  • Commitment: The Program requires the applicants to attend a mandatory orientation and to serve at least eight hours every week, not missing any shifts during the seven week program.
  • Application: All potential volunteers who can meet the above commitment are asked to fill out an online application which will be made available on this webpage. Please note this program is highly competitive as our office receives around 500 applications each year. Please do not apply if you are not able to make the commitment.
  • Interview: Volunteer staff will review and select candidates based on their applications in order to set up a one-on-one interview to be completed in person. Parents/guardians must attend the interview. Volunteer staff will make final selections as to acceptance to the program by the end of April. If you are selected to be a part of the Summer Junior Volunteer Program, you will be asked to complete an online background check as well as pass a general health screen which is provided at no cost to you by our organization.
  • Orientation: All potential volunteers must pass the background check, health screen and interview process before attending an orientation. Teens will learn about the organization, what it means to volunteer, policies, rules and regulations, as well as participate in a Campus-wide scavenger hunt.
  • Training: Each teen will receive one-the-job training in their assigned placements by Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital staff and clinicians during their first official day of volunteering.
  • Volunteer: Teens will volunteer a minimum of eight service hours per week throughout the seven week program. College/general recommendation letters are provided to those students who meet all Program requirements.
