Accredited Chest Pain Center
When chest pain is the symptom and a heart attack is a possibility, speed, teamwork, training and expertise can make all the difference in the outcome. When a heart attack strikes, time is muscle. The faster cardiac patients are treated, the more promising their prospects for long-term quality of life.
Our Chest Pain Center is accredited as a Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. The designation recognizes that the hospital’s physicians, staff and processes meet Society of Chest Pain Center’s stringent criteria..
Accredited Chest Pain Centers undergo a rigorous evaluation process by the SCPC based on their ability to assess, diagnose, and treat patients quickly and effectively. Currently there are less than 400 accredited chest pain centers, only representing 10 percent of United States hospitals..
Working in partnership with EMS, emergency physicians, cardiologists and critical care nurses, a Chest Pain Center’s goal is to shorten the time from a patient’s initial cardiac symptoms to treatment. Accredited Chest Pain Centers have been found to reduce the mortality rates of patients suffering from chest pain through a very specific protocol-driven and systematic approach which allows physicians to:.
- Treat patients more quickly during the critical early stages of heart attack, when treatments are most effective
- Better monitor patients when it’s not clear whether they are having a coronary event, which ensures that patients are not sent home too early or needlessly admitted
Our Chest Pain Center assesses and treats all categories of chest pain patients, from low-risk to serious heart attacks. Patients receive clot-busting drug treatment an average of 19 minutes after arriving at the hospital. When appropriate, the Center will transfer patients to a hospital with a comprehensive heart program, such as nearby Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-Southwest.
