Adult Program for Volunteers

Memorial Hermann volunteers come from all corners of the community and represent a variety of professions, age groups, physical abilities and ethnic and cultural backgrounds. All have made the commitment to donate their time to patients, families and visitors and become an integral part of the Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center team.

To become a Memorial Hermann-TMC volunteer:

  • Commitment:Adult volunteers (18 years of age or older) must be willing to volunteer one three-to-four hour shift per week for one year.
  • Application: All potential volunteers who can meet the above commitment are asked to fill out an online application in order to be considered for the program. Once the application is complete, it will be reviewed by a Memorial Hermann volunteer coordinator.
  • Interview: After the application has been reviewed and approved, a coordinator will set up a one-on-one interview to be completed in person. At this time, all potential volunteers are asked to complete a background check. Once background check results are received – this process can take up to two weeks – a coordinator will contact the potential volunteer regarding acceptance into the volunteer program.
  • Orientation: Potential volunteers must pass the background check and interview process before attending an orientation. Once those items are complete, a volunteer coordinator will assign the candidate to an upcoming orientation. Orientations are held twice a month and last no more than three hours. Individuals will learn about the organization, what it means to volunteer, policies, rules and regulations, as well as participate in a Campus-wide scavenger hunt.
  • Training: Each volunteer is to complete 20 hours of training at a Memorial Hermann information desk before beginning volunteer work with a hospital unit or department.
  • Volunteer: Once orientation and training are complete, volunteers will sign up to meet with a Volunteer Coordinator in order to be placed in a specific unit or department on Campus. The Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center Volunteer Team strives to place volunteers in areas where they are interested in serving and work closely with units in order to do so.
