Summer Teen Volunteer Program
High school students between the ages of 14 and 17 are
eligible to apply for the Summer Teen Volunteer program. Once a teen has
participated in this program, they are then qualified to volunteer year-round
at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and Children’s Memorial Hermann
Our teen volunteers have the opportunity to learn the importance of ethics and confidentiality, professional behavior and appearance, proper patient interaction - including age-specific competencies, infection control, fire safety and security.
To become a teen volunteer:

- The program lasts from June through August.
- All applications require an essay and two letters of
- All accepted Summer Teen volunteers must attend a
one-day orientation (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), have a TB test on file and purchase the
Summer Teen Volunteer uniform for $25.
Process: All applicants, along with a parent or guardian,
attend an interview with a volunteer services coordinator before the deadline listed
in the application packet. Summer Teen Volunteer program interview scores are then
compiled and the top candidates are selected as Summer Teen Volunteers.
- Commitment: We
ask all Summer Teens to complete a minimum of 30 hours of service over the
eight-week period and volunteer two three-hour shifts per week.
- Summer teens are allowed no more than one week of
absences during the duration of the program.
- Letters of recommendation will be provided by Volunteer
Services to teens who serve 50 hours or more.
- Program completion certificates will be mailed to
those who meet the minimum 30-hour requirement.
