As a Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center volunteer, you will play an integral role at the first hospital built in the Texas Medical Center. Our goal is to ensure that your volunteer experience is as rewarding for you as it is beneficial for our patients, families, visitors and caregivers.
Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center is a place where you can make a difference for
someone in a time of need at both our pediatric and adult facilities. Console
patients during a crisis, comfort a baby in a nursery or guide visitors to
their location – the choice is yours.
Depending on your interest and placement availability, you can volunteer
in any of the following areas:
- Administration: Volunteers
assist office staff by filing, making copies, running errands and
performing other tasks and special job-related duties as requested.
Volunteers are placed in hospital departments such as Education, Human
Resources, Internal Communications, International Services, Marketing,
Public Relations and Volunteer Services.
Memorial Hermann Hospital: Volunteers who are selected to serve at Children’s
Memorial Hermann Hospital help our pediatric patients take their minds off of
the hospital environment by playing games, reading books and offering
supplemental help to the hospital staff. Areas where volunteers are placed
include the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
(PICU), Labor and Delivery, Women’s Services, Roger and Debbie Clemens Pediatric
Wing and the Children’s Special Care Unit.
Areas: Volunteers at Memorial Hermann-TMC
may serve in various clinical areas of the hospital by providing patient
assistance as well as support to clinical staff. Clinics include: Mischer Neuroscience
Institute, Heart & Vascular Institute, Texas Trauma Institute, Cancer
Center, Texas Liver Center, Breast Clinic, John S. Dunn Sr. Burn Center, Adult
Day Surgery, Digestive Disease Center and Hyperbaric/Wound Care.
Medicine: Memorial Hermann-TMC is home to the busiest Level I trauma center in the country. Volunteering in any of our Emergency departments
will allow an individual to gain hands-on experience and assist staff in many
Operations: Volunteers may work in areas that are vital to the Campus day-to-day
operations and keep the hospital running smoothly, including: Pharmacy,
Occupational Health, Food and Nutrition, Environmental Services, Central Supply
Desks: Information desk
volunteers assist guests who are attempting to locate a patient or have general
questions. They also direct visitors to patient rooms and other locations on
Campus and in the Texas Medical Center.
Initiatives: Volunteers make reading material, games and
snacks available to hospital patients and guests by taking the supplies to
units, waiting areas and various Campus common areas. Outreach programs
include: the Rolling Library, the Snackin’ Wagon, Popcorn Cart and Game Train.
Care Areas: Volunteers assisting in these areas offer conversation to assist the nursing
staff and help the unit run smoothly. Areas include: Elderly Acute Care,
General Medicine, Oncology, Neurology IMU and Ortho Trauma.
