Volunteer Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital this summer. Volunteering is an exciting way to spend part of your summer time, to learn more about yourself and consider your education and career choices.
Please call Volunteer Services at 713.704.4141 to request an application packet. After you receive the application packet please read all the materials and forms, review them with your parents/guardian, complete each and submit them by mail or in person at the address below. All items must be submitted together and no extension can be made. Here are some program details for your consideration: -
You must be 14 years old by June 7, 2010, to participate in the program.
- You must be attending or entering high school.
- There is a mandatory orientation on Sunday, June 6. It will begin at exactly 2:00PM and will end around 5:00PM
- Acceptance is based on several factors: Suitability, scheduling and available openings.
- You will be expected to commit to a regular weekly schedule. There are two shifts from which to choose: a morning shift from 9:00AM -Noon and an afternoon shift from 1:00 – 4:00PM
- Please consider your summer plans to be sure you can make this commitment – you are only permitted to miss two weeks of the summer.
- Assignments and schedules, including vacations and absences, will be discussed during your interview.
- You will hear from us by May 6 if you have been accepted into our program.

Returning volunteers will be placed first. First year volunteers are not allowed to volunteer in the Children’s Hospital. Volunteers are placed throughout the hospital in units that have requested help from the program. There are many opportunities to assist with patient care, family support and general office support. If you are looking for an opportunity to shadow a physician, nurse or other healthcare professional: Volunteers have a wide range of contact with various medical professionals; however, the program is not structured to provide a shadowing/observational experience. Recognition Program Every hour of volunteer service is deeply appreciated, and service awards are presented each year to honor active volunteers for their contributions to Memorial Hermann.
