Where do volunteers spend their time?

Volunteers at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital provide support to a variety of departments in the hospital. Roles include both clerical and non-clerical. You may select from fast-paced to slow-paced work environments. A sampling of job opportunities include:

  • Patient Care units
  • Information desks
  • Golf Cart Driver
  • Gift shop
  • NICU nursery, requires special training and need
  • Pre-Op/Recovery/Endoscopy
  • Family Birth Center
  • Breast and Bone Center
  • Many more challenging areas

Volunteer Requirements-Adult Program

  • Orientation and training is monthly
  • Be willing to work at least one 4 hour shift per week
    • Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – Noon or Noon – 4 p.m.
    • Saturday morning shifts available at information desk and Gift Shop
  • Application, interview and orientation procedures are important
  • Commit to at least one year of service at one 4 hour shift a week and 170 hours of service
  • Purchase uniform required by the Auxiliary
  • Willingness to follow uniform dress code
  • Friendly and positive attitude
  • Adhere to rules and regulations of MHTW Hospital and Auxiliary
  • Willingness to have patient contact
  • Capacity for empathetic concern for patients and their families
  • Ability to act quickly and calmly; coping effectively with unusual situations and demands
  • Participate in yearly retraining and education
  • Seasonal and summer only volunteer roles are not available

Volunteer Requirements - Junior Program

  • The application process is Oct. 1 – Dec. 31 each year.  Interview process is the following Spring with orientation and training just before school ends for the summer. This is a 12 month program, not seasonal or summer only.  
  • The program has capacity for 60 students and each year enrollment is dependent on the number of students graduating from the program.   
  • Students must be between 15 and 17 years of age
  • Students must be entering Freshman, Sophomore or Junior year in High School when you begin the program. If you are currently applying and a Junior in High School you are NOT eligible as we do not accept incoming seniors.  Remember when applying you will not begin the program until the summer of the current school year.
  • Parental consent is required
  • Be willing to volunteer at least one 3 hour shift per week and 140 volunteer hours a year
    • Monday through Friday 4:00pm – 7:00 p.m.
    • Saturday morning weekend shift is available after 50 hours of service and if a position is open.
  • Application, interview and orientation procedures are important
  • As Junior Volunteers participate in three community service events per year
  • Willingness to follow uniform dress code.  Will be required to purchase uniform shirt for volunteer program (not hospital). Khaki pants are worn by both male and female participants
  • Friendly and positive attitude
  • Adhere to guidelines, rules and regulations established by MHTW Hospital and the Auxiliary
  • Willingness to have patient contact
  • Sensitivity to the need of others
  • Ability to act quickly and calmly; coping effectively with unusual situations and demands
  • Participate in training sessions as needed
  • Have fun and meet new friends in the community!
