Neuroscience Center

/uploadedImages/Locations/The_Woodlands/Neurosciences/JCAHO_GoldSeal.JPGThe Neuroscience Center at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital offers residents of north Harris County and Montgomery County access to the highest quality treatment for neurological disorders that can be achieved in a community setting.

Using state-of-the-art technology, our team can diagnose and treat a wide range of neurological disorders and conditions, including complex brain and spine surgery and neurotrauma. The Center can also treat other serious problems such as aneurysms, tumors and strokes.

Our multidisciplinary team led by medical directors Peter Shedden, M.D., (Neurosciences) and Kevin Gaffney, M.D., (Stroke Center) also includes neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, experienced critical care nurses, a nurse practitioner trained in neurology and other specialized medical support personnel.

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands employs state-of-the-art equipment to provide the highest-quality care. Our technology for diagnostic and surgical imaging includes a Stealth Navigation System, a PET/CT scanner, a 3 Tesla MRI and a 64 Slice CT Scanner. Neurosurgeons use a Stealth Station navigation system to pinpoint the exact location of brain tumors to within a millimeter and observe a virtual three-dimensional image of the brain. This data helps surgeons operate more successfully and efficiently.

A 12-bed surgical intensive care unit is used for patients who have undergone neurological surgeries.

Stroke Center

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital has earned the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission (TJC) for Primary Stroke Centers. Our stroke center is among fewer than 30 accredited primary stroke centers in Texas, and the only one in Montgomery County reflecting the hospital’s commitment to providing acute stroke patients with leading treatments, including new clot-dissolving drugs.

The Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Stroke Center has earned a State of Texas Level 2 designation as a Primary Stroke Center. Patients also benefit from the hospital’s close affiliation with Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, which is recognized as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission (TJC) and a Level I Comprehensive Stroke Center by the State of Texas. For stroke patients in the Montgomery County area, quality care close by can mean the difference between a full recovery and a life-changing event.

A stroke support group also meets at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands. For more information, please call 713-222-CARE or 281-364-5959.
