Five types of treatment are used for neuroblastoma:
- Surgery
- Radiation therapy
- Chemotherapy
- Biologic therapy
- Watchful waiting
Surgery for Treatment of Neuroblastoma
Surgery is usually used to treat neuroblastoma by removing as much of
the tumor as is safety possible. If the tumor cannot be removed, a
biopsy may be done instead.
Biologic Therapy for Neuroblastoma
Biologic therapy uses the patient's immune system to fight cancer.
Substances made by the body or made in a laboratory are used to boost,
direct or restore the body's natural defenses against cancer. This type
of treatment is also called biotherapy or immunotherapy.
Watchful Waiting for Neuroblastoma
Watchful waiting is closely monitoring a patient's condition without giving any treatment until symptoms appear or change.
