Emilio Navaira Updates From Memorial Hermann
HOUSTON, TX (March25,
3:25 p.m. - Alex Valadka, M.D., director of neurotrauma service at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, today began increasing the body temperature of Emilio Navaira from 33 degrees to 37 degrees C.
The team will warm Navaira at a rate of one-quarter of a degree per hour. He is expected to reach normal body temperature at midnight.
Physicians continue to monitor the pressure in Navaira's brain and will adjust medications as necessary.
The Grammy-award winning Tejano singer sustained an acute subdural hematoma, a severe injury to the brain, in a bus accident in Houston early Sunday. He underwent emergency surgery on Sunday morning at Memorial Hermann-TMC and remains in critical condition in a medically induced coma.
Dr. Valadka is also vice chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
