HUMBLE, TEXAS (February 06, 2017)

Memorial Hermann is pleased to announce Josh Urban as the new Senior Vice President (SVP) and CEO of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital effective February 6, 2017. Urban also will continue to serve as SVP and CEO of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital.

Additionally, Memorial Hermann today announced that Heath Rushing, the outgoing SVP and CEO of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, will take on dual responsibility as SVP and CEO of Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital and Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital.

“It’s been a true honor to serve the Lake Houston community,” said Rushing. “While our staff, volunteers and affiliated physicians have accomplished much over the past 10 years, the future is bright with Josh at the helm. He’s an expert in the field and dedicated to our patients and the community as a whole. Honestly, I couldn’t have handpicked anyone more adept to lead Memorial Hermann Northeast into the years ahead.”

Urban began his tenure with Memorial Hermann in 2000 as an administrative fellow reporting to Dan Wolterman, former President and CEO of Memorial Hermann Health System. From there, he went on to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, working his way up from Director of Hospital Operations to Chief Ambulatory Services Officer. During his eight years of service, Urban’s responsibilities ranged from hospital operations, where he oversaw construction, engineering, facilities and environmental services, to specialty service lines, where he led strategy for business units such as emergency services, specialty surgery, oncology, transplant services and bariatrics.

In 2008, Urban joined Memorial Hermann The Woodlands as Chief Operating Officer under now retired CEO Steve Sanders. Just five years later, he assumed the position of CEO. In that time, he has managed expansion and renovation projects in excess of $250 million and led the hospital’s pursuit of Level II Trauma designation. In addition, Urban has been instrumental in creating a culture of excellence, which has been recognized nationally in the areas of quality, patient safety and patient satisfaction.

Starting today, Urban will jointly lead Memorial Hermann Northeast and Memorial Hermann The Woodlands with a focus on building a collaborative relationship that will better meet the health care needs of residents living in the north Houston region.

“Memorial Hermann Northeast has experienced tremendous success and growth under Heath’s leadership,” said Urban. “The hospital’s employees, volunteers, and medical staff’s unwavering commitment to high-quality, safe and compassionate care also has made an immeasurable impact on the community.”

“I look forward to working alongside my colleagues at Memorial Hermann Northeast to continue to grow and enhance our offerings, and further establish ourselves as the trusted, go-to health care provider in the Lake Houston area,” he added. “I’m also eager to get out and connect with the people who make up this vibrant community.”

>Urban currently serves on the boards of multiple business and civic organizations, including The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership and Interfaith of the Woodlands. He resides in The Woodlands with his wife and son. In his spare time, he enjoys running, fishing, hunting and travel.
