Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital Expands Women’s Services with Opening of Obstetric Emergency Center

HOUSTON (July10, 2017)

MHGH OBEDMemorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital recently expanded its women’s services with the opening of an obstetric emergency center. The OB Emergency Center treats pregnant women 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“Pregnant women may have a variety of emergency concerns, like bleeding, cramping, and other indicators that something is going wrong with their pregnancy. This new emergency center more quickly connects pregnant women with specialists prepared to diagnose and treat those issues,” says Sean Blackwell, M.D., a maternal fetal medicine (MFM) physician affiliated with Memorial Hermann Greater Heights and UTHealth. “It also keeps pregnant women with these issues out of the hospital’s main Emergency Center, where emergency room physicians are treating a variety of illnesses and injuries.”

The OB Emergency Center is located on the 4th floor of the South Tower at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights and is the latest expansion of women’s services. Last month the hospital opened a high-risk pregnancy center, staffed by affiliated MFM specialists from UT Physicians. The center offers a wide variety of advanced tests to monitor fetal development, including advanced fetal anatomy ultrasounds, biophysical profiles, amniocentesis, and noninvasive prenatal testing.

“These recent expansions offer a more convenient location for women in the area to receive a higher level of sub-specialty care, especially for women with major medical conditions or health concerns of their own. Every baby deserves a health mother,” says Dr. Blackwell.
